Lunch

September 11, 2006 at 8:41 pm (Preachings and Scripture, Soul Food)

I had a late lunch today. Not because I was pressed for time, but because I was full. I’m sure that as I become accustom to the plan I’ll find the meals less and less satisfying, but for now I’m almost too full. Lunchtime consisted of spinach leaves, a slice of whole wheat bread, 8oz of non-fat milk (chugged… the only way non-fat milk can be drank) and the NS “Noodles with chicken and veggies.” The NS meal was palatable. The taste, as well as the container reminds me of something I would get from one of the microwave ready Dinty Moore soups. Overall, I’d grade it as a B.

Switching topics, I really need to go read some Chaucer for my Brit. Lit. class.

Dinner turned out to be pretty decent. I had a salad with dressing (as my fats), a decent sized glass of V8 juice as my veggies, a slice of whole wheat bread as my low GI carb and the NS chicken pasta parmesan (Grade, B). The only fault of the NS meal is that it tasted like a TV dinner. But, if you stop and think about it, that’s a good thing. I mean, this isn’t supposed to be a fat packed, carbohydrate laden entree. So, for it to have some flavor and be easily palatable is a big kudos towards NS.

For desert I had the lemon berry bar. And it was very, berry, good. Grade, A.

Day 1. And so it begins.

September 11, 2006 at 4:59 pm (Soul Food)

Today seems to be a day of firsts. Today I published my first blog post and I ate my first meal on the Nutrisystem diet. If you have ever wondered if the commercials were true, then stay tuned here. Part of my reason for starting a blog was to give myself a place where I could post comments, my thoughts on the diet, and to be critical of their meals.

So far, the most annoying thing is that you have to add a bunch of food to their pre-made, portion controlled diet. For example, today’s breakfast was their NS meal (2 – 1oz. Banana spice muffins). Then, on top of that I added 8oz. of milk (for the required dairy/protein), ½ cup of cooked oats (for the required low GI carb) and a large Kiwi fruit (for the required fruit). I have to say that the muffins were pretty gritty and the “spice” they are referring to is cloves… lots and lots of cloves. Overall though, I’m stuffed from the meal. I’m actually wondering, at this point, how I’ll stuff lunch down my gullet.

What to say, what to say?

September 11, 2006 at 4:45 pm (Echos of the Damned)

I’m actually a little daunted by my first ever blog post. I know, I know, what is there to fear? It’s an on-line, virtual area and no one will ever know who I am. Well, I must admit that blogging doesn’t exactly strike me as my forte. Perhaps I’ve just read some really bad blogs out there, but I have no desire to emulate any of them.

I do want to start off by saying that while I am a political person, I’ll attempt to refrain from many political comments. While I am a passionate person, I will attempt to avoid digressing into a raving tangent. This blog, for the most part, is going to serve as a place for me to talk with myself. An on-line diary, if you will.

The title of the blog, Life in Purgatory, describes my life up to this point. I have a desire for greater good (be it success, riches, a deeper spirituality, or whatever) without succumbing to the temptations of attaining those goods illegally, immorally or under false pretenses.

I guess, in the end, we’ll just have to see where this goes. I’m sure that most of my posts will be boring and utterly disappointing to anyone who dares to read them. Most will be about my schooling (a local community college) and my diet (Nutrisystem).

Hello world!

Welcome to WordPress.com. This is your first post. Edit or delete it and start blogging!

You know, I think I’m going to leave this “first post.” It completely takes the pressure off of me, and I can start out with my second post! Sophmoric? Yes, perhaps. I just hope I can live up to the excitement expressed in this pre-existing original!
