Tuesday trivia!

January 2, 2007 at 5:29 pm (Echos of the Damned)

Hmmm, maybe I’ll try to come up with a trivia question every Tuesday. No, this wont be a closed book test. Feel free to respond and answer/discuss the question if you want, but if you’d rather look up the answer, that’s fine too since most of my questions will probably be “off the wall” stuff that I found neat… not your typical, run-of-the-mill questions.

Todays question: How many times has the state of Texas been obliged to change its capital? Since this is the first question, I’ll make it multiple choice.

A) 5

B) 10

C) 15

 The answer tomorrow.

Happy New Years!

January 2, 2007 at 12:54 pm (Echos of the Damned)

To anyone who comes by to check in, even if it’s only once in a while (understandable since I suck at keeping my blog updated), HAPPY belated NEW YEARS!!!

I wish everyone, or at least those who decided to make new years resolutions, luck in keeping them!

My top 2, with more to come later, are to do a better job of sticking with NS and my weight loss goals. Also, to update my blog more often!!!

Interesting

December 27, 2006 at 11:43 am (Echos of the Damned)

I came across this blog (http://christmasspirit.wordpress.com/2006/12/19/counting-on-christmas-statistics/) the other day while surfing. I must say, there are a few numbers in there that I was astounded by.

For instance, the fact that 47% of people would toss a fruitcake without a second thought. Maybe it’s just me, in my fat ways, but I rather enjoyed a good fruitcake back in the day. To me, this high number indicates a few things. First, the fruitcakes mentioned must be given as gifts. I mean if people are so willing to toss them, then they probably weren’t the ones who shelled out the cash on them. So that begs the question. Are these holiday treats tossed out of spite? (“It looks like old, batty Aunt Margaret gave us another one of her “FRUITcakes” this year. Oh boy!” *toss*) Second, it could show the ignorance (used properly as a “lack of education” http://www.m-w.com/dictionary/ignorance) of some folk, especially in the people who are from my generation - or younger. After all, I know a lot of people, even a few that I would consider friends, who probably wouldn’t try a bite of a fruitcake because of the jokes and mockery made of them. Most, dare I say close to 47%, probably take that mockery at face value. Like I said, I really enjoyed some of the fruitcakes I have eaten in the past. These days I wouldn’t set out to eat one, as I’m attempting to shed some pounds, but I sure wouldn’t trash one either. I’d push it off on friends and family when they came to visit… it’s not like a fruitcake’s going to rot anytime soon. And, like the saying goes, “if I can’t be skinny, then everyone around me might as well be fat.” I hope that didn’t come off as a tangent, but wow 47% of people would toss a fruitcake without delay.

Yes, there are some other interesting numbers in there, but I’ll leave them to be discovered… I’ve got some fruitcakes to go save!

Chicken and Barley Stew *hurk*

November 16, 2006 at 2:27 pm (Soul Food)

Yeah, so, today seems to continue my run of bad luck when it comes to trying some new (to me) NS meals. Lunch was Chicken and Barley Stew. Hey, I thought it sounded good. I like chicken. I like stew. I even like barley! So, what could go wrong? Well, the stew was okay except for the over abundance of barley flavor. Maybe it wouldn’t have been so bad, but it was kind of a fake barley taste too. I assume it would be like feeding a horse “barley flavored hay.” Sure, it has a barley like flavor, but that doesn’t make it a chicken and barley stew!

Well, I decided to make a quick weigh in this morning. For having a few days of business trip and a weekend of gluttony, the results were not as devastating as I thought they would be (basically, I’ve ‘maintained’ the weight loss I’d started even though I’ve been bad). Today saw me at 281 pounds. That’s 19lb below where I started. Decent results, considering, yet a long, long way to go!

And then, there was Wednesday

November 15, 2006 at 10:27 pm (Soul Food)

Today was a little hectic, to say the least. I was packing my junk up at work, since I’ll be moving cubicles on Friday. Just as I was getting ready for lunch, my manager swings by and drags me off into a three-hour meeting. Yes, a three-hour meeting *hears the Giligan’s Island theme in the background*So, needless to say, I didn’t get lunch today.

Breakfast was the granola cereal, man that stuff is great.

Dinner was Chicken Pizzaiola. Pizzaiola. What a funny word. It mushes around in my mouth a lot like the NS chicken does. I don’t mind it as much when the chicken is cut up, but a whole chicken breast, which is the consistency of Spam, is just too much. The sauce it was in had a cheesy flavor to it, which wasn’t bad. But, again, the mushy chicken draws down the score to a C.

The Peanutbutter cookie for dessert was pretty decent. It wasn’t very sweet, but had a nice nutty taste - the type of nutty taste I understand is to be expected of peanutbutter. I nuked it for about 7 seconds, which made it a lot better.

*I’ve updated the blog 2 days in a row! Heck, even I’M impressed!*

I’m back, and hopefully to stay… this time

November 14, 2006 at 12:20 pm (Soul Food)

So, I’ve been gone for a while. Not something I planned on, but the wagon kept moving after I fell off. It’s kind of sad really. I would love to blame someone else, I really would, but I can’t. I was seeing results from the diet and exercise, I was happy and proud of dropping the weight quickly, and I sabotaged myself. I went along with friends and my girlfriend to go and eat out, to be bad. Maybe I could stretch things, and blame it on them… but that would just be selling myself short. I need to get back into the correct mindset and be determined that nothing will pry me from the goals that I have set for myself. So, maybe this boat load of new food will help. I went out to Nutrisystem and chose my own meals rather than settle for the same old package. I hope this will shake things up and get me back into the swing of things. Breakfast was the apple granola bar, man, I dig those things. I also had the typical whole wheat bread, a prepackaged cup of apple sauce (this one was peach and apple, unsweetened… mmmm, it was good) and a dairy item.

Lunch was the bread, cottage cheese (1%), salad and the Bacon Cheddar Mashers. Yes, the mashers are new to me. So, where to start with these things… I’m going to be very frank. First, they’re “baby shit” yellow. Second, they’re very pasty in consistency… much like the afore mentioned baby excretions. Well, they’re pasty with the exception of the bacon… which throws the consistency off completely. As far as taste goes, which is the most important I suppose, they’re “okay” at best. They’re rather bland. C – .

Din-din was the spicy Cajun rice with chicken and sausage. To tell you the truth, there wasn’t much flavor to it, but it did have a nice kick of heat! It gets an even B. After dinner, I selected the chocolate cherry cordials for desert. Hubba hubba! These things, which taste a lot like their normal chocolate desert pieces are every bit as good as I was hoping. Mmm, A!

Okay, it has been a bit since my last posts, but I’m still going strong on the diet. So far, I’ve only faced one issue and that is work travel. Well, it’s rearing its head again, and I am heading to Denver for the 27th through the 29th. I plan on packing my meals with me, but I know I wont get a chance to eat much more than the breakfasts.

Breakfast: Frosted cereal (I’ve reviewed), apple sauce, milk, and 1 slice of whole wheat toast.

The come-back!

September 26, 2006 at 11:15 am (Soul Food)

Here we go, playing some catch up – just for Merdacci!

Strawberry bar – F. Easily the worst thing I’ve eaten on the diet.

Tuna Salad with Melba toast – B. The Salad was good, just not enough melba toast to eat it with.

Green Pepper Steak with rice – B. Not bad, really.

The BBQ beef and rice tasted a lot like Lyod’s BBQ Beef (the ones that come in the little plastic tubs)… C-.

The Vanilla Pudding wasn’t as good as the chocolate… it had a really, really noticeable sweetener taste to it. C-.

Day 10

September 20, 2006 at 11:25 am (Soul Food)

After a few rough days of business, I’m back to the NS program full time! Today’s breakfast was the blueberry bran muffin. I could taste the bran, but can honestly say I have no clue where the blueberries, or their taste, were hiding. This one was a C at best.

Today’s lunch will be a turkey dog again… I need to get it eaten and out of the fridge so that it wont go bad on me.

Off to a workout I go!
